The Career.

As Director of Wellness at V!VA Leaside, you will report to the Community Director and provide strategic and hands-on leadership to the Wellness Department, supporting Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care Community Members. You will be accountable for the quality, delivery, and continuous improvement of wellness services, ensuring all care aligns with professional best practices, organizational standards, and legislative requirements. You will help bring V!VA Leaside to life — creating an environment where Community Members feel safe, supported, and truly at home, and where Team Members are proud of the care they provide.


Key Responsibilities:

 

Operations & Clinical Leadership

  • Oversee the delivery of professional nursing care in alignment with care plans, standards of practice, and V!VA policies.
  • Implement, evaluate, and maintain individualized Community Member Care Plans.
  • Ensure appropriate care levels at move-in and ongoing reassessments.
  • Oversee medication administration programs in partnership with specialty pharmacy providers.
  • Lead infection prevention and control programs, including education, audits, and vaccination compliance.
  • Manage falls prevention initiatives in collaboration with Lifestyles and Operations teams.
  • Monitor, document, and review incidents, directing appropriate follow-up and interventions.
  • Coordinate Wellness clinics, physician services, and external care providers.
  • Facilitate care conferences and communicate proactively with families.
  • Maintain strong relationships with hospitals, Ontario Health at Home, Public Health, and community partners.
  • Ensure full compliance with RHRA and all legislative requirements.

Team Leadership & Administration

  • Recruit, onboard, coach, and manage the performance of the Wellness Team.
  • Develop schedules and staffing plans to ensure optimal coverage and resource utilization.
  • Support ongoing education, certifications, and professional development.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative team culture.
  • Participate in the Manager-on-Duty rotation and provide leadership support as needed.
  • Model ethical leadership and sound clinical judgment at all times.

Business Planning & Monitoring

  • Contribute to annual business and operating plans, budgets, and capital planning.
  • Monitor department performance, expenses, and revenue-generating wellness services.
  • Use KPIs and quality indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support quality initiatives, risk management, and team member retention strategies.

Health & Safety

  • Lead emergency preparedness, drills, and response protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with IPAC standards and outbreak management procedures.
  • Promote safe work practices for Team Members, Community Members, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (RN or RPN).
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in retirement living or a similar environment.
  • At least 3 years’ experience managing wellness or care programs for seniors.
  • Strong clinical assessment, care planning, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with electronic health records and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and be on-call as required.
  • Satisfactory Police Check – Vulnerable Sector.
  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the role.
